single parents dating: how to move forward with the kids?
February 14, 2010 | 3 Comments
i’m a single mom of a 2 yr old girl (her father is completely out of the picture) and i’m dating a single dad of a 3 yr old girl and a 6 yr old boy. things are going great between us, we’ve been dating a couple months now. we’ve briefly met each others’ kids, but not spent any time with them. we’ve talked about it though, and we both want to start getting to know each others’ children at some point in the near future.
does anyone have any advise on the best way of going about this?
do you think it’s too soon?
what sort of things would be good to do together? my friend has invited us all to her son’s 6yr birthday at chucky cheese, would that be a good way to start maybe, with lots of people around?
any helpful suggestions would be great, thanks!! ![]()
we’ve already talked about disciplining the kids, and treating them differently. we’re on the same page.
You’re going to run into problems especially when it comes to discipling the kids and you’ll take your kid’s side and he’ll take his. Rethink if you really want to go through that.

well I wouldn’t consider a crowded b-day party to be a proper introduction. And sometimes kids get a little wild and out of control at b-day parties and are not making the best impression…. or maybe that’s just my kids LOL
Anyways, I don’t think it’s too soon to meet and hang out, but definitely limit the PDA action, no hand holding, kissing, cuddling. There’s lots of things you can do, meet at parks or take the kids to a movie, a picnic. Maybe after a few public outings, you could do some home visits.
Do you think single parents should date?
January 5, 2010 | 15 Comments
I do not have any children right now. I’m just curious because my marriage and family course had a discussion about this issue. Alot of people believed single parents shouldn’t. However, in my personal opinion I believe they should as long as they can balance out their time.
I am a single mom and I have dated on occasion. I don’t see any problem with it. How else are we ever going to be able to move on? My ex was an abusive drug dealer so I took my kids and left. That doesn’t mean I should be single forever. I tihnk they should just keep it away from the kids until they know this other person will be around for a while.
